Community Announcements

Welcome to the Grand Canyon Community News Weekly email for Dec 6th. Our goal is to combine all Grand Canyon area Activities, Events, Meetings, Volunteer Opportunities in one newsletter and send it out weekly. If you have something to contribute please click the links below.

Grand Canyon Rotary Holiday Dinner Dance is this Saturday evening at El Tovar at 6 pm.  Advanced tickets still available by contacting Sue Winchester at 702-420-9403 and they will also be selling tickets at the door ($50).  Live Music by Exit 64, silent auction, cash raffle - come join the fun and support our community!

Grand Canyon Village Market - has a Holiday Special this Saturday December 8th.  Santa Claus will be there for pictures from 10 am - 2 pm.  They have an in store special of 25% off all items (other discounts do not apply) and up to 40% off clearance items!  Note alcohol and tobacco products are not included. The store is open from 8 am - 8 pm - come get your Grand Canyon gifts for your friends and family!

Don't forget to Donate Blood especially during the holiday season.  Vialant (formerly United Blood Service) has this message to share "Our hearts go out to all those affected by the wildfires in California and the recent shooting in Thousand Oaks. On Nov. 8 Vitalant Arizona, formerly United Blood Services, sent O- and O+ blood to our sister center for the shooting victims as we are the sole supplier to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. We’re asking donors across our state and the country to step up and help by giving blood in the coming days and weeks to support our communities in California impacted by these fires as we continue to monitor the needs of hospitals in these areas. This will help replenish the blood supply to ensure life-transforming donations are available for patients there as well as here in our local community as we prepare for the holidays which bring a huge decrease in blood donations. As you can see it’s absolutely vital to continuously replenish the blood supply so we’re ready for any disaster, like the recent shootings and these wildfires, as well as every day emergencies and ongoing patient blood needs."  They are hosting a blood drive on Friday December 14th from 10 am - 2pm at the Grand Canyon Recreation Center. ALL donors from now through December 31, 2018 will receive an additional 700 Rewards Points for making an appointment and keeping it. This is enough for a $10 Movie Gift Certificate. If added to existing points, donors can get gifts cards to places like Amazon, Target, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Cold Stone Creamery and more…just in time for the holidays!

Grand Canyon Yearbook Staff - would like to include you in the creation of their 2018-2019 Shadows yearbook.  For as little as $50 you can place an advertisement in the yearbook that will be instantly cherished for years to come. Click here for flyer. Please email Kristen Zanos if you are interested.  They would like to have commitments and  payments prior to Winter break.

SNAP Program - Do you need help buying food?

We have been working hard to bring a SNAP program to the Grand Canyon area. We hope to have more information soon but if you want to see if you may qualify see below.

Your household must meet certain requirements to be eligible for SNAP and receive benefits. If your State agency determines that you are eligible to receive SNAP benefits, you will receive benefits back to the date you submitted your application.

To see if you might be eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, visit our pre-screening tool.

Note: The FNS SNAP pre-screening eligibility tool is an interactive site with general information about eligibility requirements and how benefits are determined. Sharing your information in that form does not mean you filed an application for benefits. You will still need to submit an application through your State SNAP agency or local SNAP office.
