Good morning to you!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by readers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“I remember back in the mid-1990s, one of my friends was running an abstracting office (Distractions, Sept. 8, 2025). He said how much he hated his fax machine. ‘People send me a fax, then call me and ask me if it's done yet. It's created artificial urgency.’ I think we have lots more artificial urgency today.” - Brad

And, today, we get text messages from people to tell us they left voicemail messages. - Shane

“Good morning, Shane. I've been fortunate in so many ways. For the purpose of this letter, I'll limit it to marriage. I married a beautiful half-Dutch wife who kept close watch on our spending. This has come to be much less stressful as our 22-year-old home is in need of updated appliances and adaptation due to our needs (Tearing things apart, Sept. 10, 2025). A walk-in shower, HVAC, garage door and appliances have been afforded loan-free due to her thrift. More importantly, she's avoided the mess my ineptitude burden would subject us both to. It also gives me more time to wonder about mysteries of the universe such as UFOs (UAPs for no discernable reason), why the media thinks we care about obscure celebrities' lives or opinions, and, politics aside, why President Trump took the vice president and two cabinet secretaries to dinner and not his wife.” - John

Well, as a good friend once told me, we are all a bit over-married from time to time — except you and me, of course. - Shane

“My wife can fix just about anything (Tearing things apart, Sept. 10, 2025). I'll leave it at that.” - Brad

And, should I assume, you can break just about anything? - Shane

“My brother was like yours (Tearing things apart, Sept. 10, 2025). He ended up as design engineer and mechanical engineer as professions. He restored old cars as a hobby. He told me once on the phone how to repair my washing machine, and it made me proud that I did it myself. I remember him repairing a non-working cell phone for his son, too. Guess his childhood ‘play’ was good practice for him.” - Margaret

So, Margaret, I can call you now for washing machine repairs? Excellent. - Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.
