The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that nine people are dead with 57 hospitalized in the listeria scare tied to recalled Boar's Head meats. Here is the full list of recalled Boar's Head products, from the Washington Post. No turkey products are on the list.

RIP Michel Guérard. The first chef whose restaurant won a full three Michelin stars for 40 consecutive years died recently at 91. He was the father of "cuisine minceur," the less-is-more school of cooking best known for his line "hold the butter." He died in his chateau in the Basque part of southwest France, surrounded by a full mile of grape vines.

• Bordanaro's (6108 S.W. Ninth St., Des Moines) has a Wednesday-Thursday only special on carryout pizza. They start at $6.50 for a 10-inch cheese pie. Each ingredient added is an extra charge, but this pretty much adds up to half-price pies.

Some Iowa school districts don’t. DES MOINES, IOWA — After a long holiday weekend teachers and students went back to the classroom but some districts had a problem: a lack of half-pint milk cartons for students. Anderson Erickson Dairy tells WHO 13 News that there was a mechanical error at the plant over the weekend.
