“The community Easter Egg hunts remind me of an episode from my childhood. I was 5 years old and my aunt took me to the Easter Egg hunt that was held on the grounds of the courthouse. I was so stressed out and found NOTHING while the bigger kids were filling their baskets with candy, So, of course, in my 5-year-old fashion, I proceeded to melt down, totally throwing a fit with my empty Easter basket getting tossed to the ground and everybody staring at the little brat throwing a temper tantrum. Of course, in her ‘best aunt in the world’ fashion my aunt immediately walked me to the five and dime store and filled my basket up with an assortment of Easter goodies, straightened my Easter dress, wiped my eyes and nose, and walked me back to my grandparents’ home, and no one was the wiser — though I’m sure she told everyone later what happened.” - Lori

“Shane, this sounds like a personal problem to me (Stainless steel tumblers, March 27, 2024). My limited collection of stainless steel cups/tumblers (one each, six sizes) are all YETI brand, and I don't have any leaking problems. For a while, I even shared the same magnet lid between a couple of them, but I finally bought an additional magnet lid. Before discovering that the YETI higher price buys quality, I had a couple of less expensive cups that leaked. I don't have them anymore. I constantly have a YETI tumbler or cup in use. My wife has two YETIs, but she uses a different brand metal tumbler for her university alma mater. Her usage is limited, and she hasn't complained of leaking problems. The shift to stainless steel (or look alike) has caused some realignment in our inventory of drinkware. Have great day!” - Chuck

Yes, the Iowa Cubs are a big draw in central Iowa. One of the reasons is history, as few teams have been associated with the same major league program for as long as the I-Cubs have with the Chicago Cubs. Another reason is that the team wins. The edible commodities report. "While corn, wheat, coffee beans and chicken have gotten cheaper, prices for sugar, beef and French fries are still high or rising," writes Wall Street Journal... Ecuador, where the world's most expensive cacao grows, is about to become the No. 2 world leader in total cacao production. Swollen Shoot Virus and longer monsoon/drought cycles are thwarting cacao production in West Africa where five countries have produced an overwhelming majority of world cacao beans for decades. The Iowa Blues Hall of Fame's induction celebration will be Sunday. As always, blues go best with great barbecue. Sumpin’ Doo will be the host band, Flying Mango will bring the Q and Steve Vasquez will bring the pies. That's as good as it gets in Iowa. The 2024 class to be inducted includes Tony Brown, Jeff Wagner, Don “T-Bone” Erickson, Lynette Webster, Tom Gary and Tina Haase Findlay. At River Center Emporium.

| Weekly fuel report | | | The price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 6 cents, averaging $3.27 across Iowa according to AAA. Prices are down 3 cents from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday was $3.55, up 1 cent from last week’s price.
Retail diesel prices in Iowa fell 1 cent this week with a statewide average of $3.77. One year ago, diesel prices averaged $3.84 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price is 26 cents lower than the national average of $4.03.
Wholesale ethanol held steady and is currently priced at $2.16.
Natural gas prices rose 12 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently prices at $1.84/MMbtu. |
