All I can say is that I picked up the habit in drivers education from my instructor, Ron. I don't remember his reasoning. Or, perhaps it was this: The Smith System of No-Accident Driving." - Brent

“What you wrote really supports an argument that being the greatest player really depends on who is saying it and what they want to use as criteria (G.O.A.T, Feb. 20, 2024). Championships help, but if a player had top numbers in not only scoring, but categories like assists that demonstrate team play rather than selfish play, that person should be able to be GOAT without a championship. Same should go for admission to various halls of fame.” - Chuck

Retirement-age workers share why they continue to report for duty.

The vision of what life is like “after retirement” is as unique as each individual. For some, that vision focuses on leisure: traveling to warm beaches, afternoons spent reading, extra rounds of golf, more time for hobbies, friends and families. For others, however, employment continues to be an important aspect of their lives. From those who continue full-time careers to those who put in a few hours to keep busy, work can be a key part of life after retirement age.
Five golden employees
Take a stroll in the Waukee Hardware and Rent-it Center store, and you will find employees ready to assist customers in finding that one “thingy” for the bathroom faucet, a gadget for a broken hinge or the right-sized screw for the project.
When customers arrive, employees ranging from ages 16 to 93 will assist them.
Waukee Hardware currently employs five post-retirement folks, working mostly day shifts. Karen Passig is one of those employees who began working at the hardware store more than three years ago. At age 82, she points out that she’s not the oldest person who works there. “Bob Tressel — he’s 93, and he’s worked here for 31 years,” she says. | | | READ MORE |

First Annual Dogtown Lights International .GIFfest
Cruise the Drake neighborhood, affectionately known as Dogtown. Drake students’ works, with guidance from graphic design professor Neal Ward, is up in Dogtown Lights through the end of February. Next up is the “1st Annual Dogtown Lights International .GIFfest,” inviting creators to make short .gif animations. All appropriate submissions will then be animated on the lights through March 15. Newsroom Tokyo reported that the Noto peninsula earthquake closed 50 of 58 fishing ports in Ishikawa prefecture. Ten were totaled and will not be rebuilt. The peninsula is renowned for exceptional sea bass and scallops.
Last June, Red Lobster announced that its “Ultimate Endless Shrimp” deal would become permanent. Despite raising the initial price from $20 to $25 across 2023, the popularity of the item, and lack of new traffic created by it, factored directly into an $11 million operating loss in the third quarter of 2023. Then Red Lobster reported a record $12.5 million operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2023. Minority investor Thai Union Group announced its intent to exit the company, citing a $21 million loss from Red Lobster across the first nine months of 2023. (CNN)
