Jingle Chi's Adoption Special

This is Freddy.  Looking at his face, you would never in a million years think of him as ordinary.  But unfortunately, Chihuahuas like him are a dime a dozen in the shelter system in Phoenix.

Because there are so many of them, many are put to sleep.

Thanks to HALO, Freddy is safe.  HALO took him in, got him ready for adoption, and found him a loving home.  But there are others like him who are in danger, so we're having a special this month to try to find homes for as many Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes as we can.

Tell everyone you know about the Jingle Chi's special, where you can adopt a wonderful little lap dog for only $12.25.

Help! We Need New Sheds for the Move

The only shed we have that will survive a move

As some of you have heard, HALO is going to be moving soon.  HALO's lease is up in June of 2013.  We are about 90% finished with our moving plan but we can't announce it until it's finalized.  Stay tuned, we will definitely let you all know what the deal is as soon as we possibly can!   There is one thing that we know we need help with in the meantime though.

We have lots of supplies for the 400 animals we care for at any given time.  Those of you who have been to our 35th Avenue shelter have seen what we are currently using for storage.  And some of you may have heard one of the sheds affectionately referred to as "the rat shed."

We need handy places, out of the elements and away from critters, to store the food, kennels, travel crates, clean laundry, kitty litter, toys, bedding, and other supplies that the animals depend on.

Cracks in the shed ceiling

The storage sheds are all in disrepair except for one. The sheds won't survive a move... they start falling apart when we try to dissemble them.

When we move, we will need four new storage sheds.  We found a great deal on the kind of sheds we need, but we have to buy them all together to get the awesome discount. The total cost is $2,400.

Will you guys please help?

Donate towards the sheds

(write "sheds" in the comments section)

If we are lucky enough to receive more than the amount we need for the sheds, the rest will go towards other costs of moving the animals to their new home.

Featured Pet:  Parker

Hi there, my name is Parker!

I'm a handsome young man who is looking for a place to call home. Do you think that could be with you? I found my way here to HALO after having been a stray turned in at another shelter.

I am a special needs cat because I have a neurological issue which causes by eyes to move around.  I was so glad when HALO saw me and decided to give me a second chance at finding a family to love me.

I love head rubs and back scratches, they are my favorite.  Do you know someone who might love me?

The Results Are In

HALO Ranked #10 nationwide in the ASPCA Rachel Ray $100k Shelter Challenge!

Everyone at the shelter busted their rears to achieve that amazing increase in lives saved.  Thank you so much to all the volunteers, staff, donors, and adopters who helped us along the way.

We may not have won the $100,000 prize for the animals, but we did save many, many more lives this year than last year.  We also qualify for a $5,000 grant which will be a great help.

Thank you for your support during the challenge!

Other Goings-On

Don't Forget the Big Picture...

About 96,000 animals enter the shelters in Maricopa County each year.  Approximately half of them leave alive.

The other half are euthanized.  These are the animals that HALO focuses on saving.  We take animals in danger of euthanasia at other valley shelters and give them love, care, and medical treatment, and then find them loving forever homes.

Our resources are limited to pay for their necessary vaccinations, antibiotics, spay/neuter surgeries, etc., so we can only save as many dogs and cats as we can afford.  With support from our fellow animal lovers, we can afford to save more lives.

We are at the big shelters EVERY DAY, rescuing as many animals in danger of euthanasia as we can.

You can help us save more lives by Adopting, Volunteering, and Donating.
